A Dangerous Time of Year for the King of Upland Birds

While out and about in northern Wisconsin and the UP this past week, we’ve seen quite a few Ruffed Grouse.

These three were together and I was able to get some photos while they ate.

It is a very dangerous time of year for the Ruffed Grouse.

With the snow melting and no cover on the ground or foliage on the trees, there are very few places for them to hide from hungry avian predators.
