Why Traditional Spay and Neuter of Dogs is Not Okay

We’ve known this for quite a while but there has only been a few, breed-specific studies and, while some had the common sense thinking that the effects of removing the hormone-producing organs in our canine kids would cause grave health problems, the world–most traditional veterinarians–kept insisting it was the best thing to do. It might be the easiest way to prevent unwanted puppies for most folks but it was never the best way. Finally, the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) made a groundbreaking decision in May 2024: they no longer endorse conventional spaying and neutering, signaling a paradigm shift in veterinary care.
I could go on and on about the now-existing studies–and you know I have–that demonstrate the far-reaching consequences of hormone removal in dogs. These include musculoskeletal injuries, ligament tears, arthritis, chronic inflammation, hip dysplasia, thyroid and adrenal issues, Addison’s disease, allergies, organ dysfunction, and behavioral problems such as fear and aggression. Certain cancers are also more prevalent in dogs subjected to conventional spay and neuter procedures. But I think the best thing I can do is to point you to the experts. I highly recommend watching the following videos. You owe it to your dog to be the most informed about all areas of health care for your dog. They are your responsibility. So become informed about the alternatives to traditional spay and neuter practices and seek and insist on alternative options or keep them intact.
Instead of scrolling mindlessly tonight, take a few hours to watch the following videos to become educated, and save your dog from a life of misery and your bank account from being drained as you try to counteract the irreparable effects on the endocrine system from hormone-removing traditional spay or neuter practices.
