It Was a Three-Dog Night

Ran the dogs at the farm property this evening. Worked on whistle commands–for turn and come. I need to start working individually on heel, whoa, etc. Basically I have just been getting everyone back into the field for exercise, a little retrieving work, range, deer-breaking, and some needed collar-conditioned. But, the serious work is about to begin.

Jenna is a happy girl, running. I am always amazed at her speed and stamina. She can cover ground with amazing speed. I love her.

It’s good to have my girl back in the field and she is loving every minute of it. She can be a bit hard-headed at times (really, only when she wants to ride up-front with me, instead of getting into the kennel in the back of the truck), but has been perfect lately. She goes straight from the house to the kennel in the truck–even when it’s time to go home. And is listening perfectly. Good girl.

We can’t go to the farm without a couple of stops to swim. Ike loves the water as much as Jenna and I couldn’t keep them out of it (although I didn’t even try to keep them out). It was just fine for them to swim all they wanted tonight.

The shots didn’t turn out, but Ike had some perfect water retrieves. Jenna did great at retrieving as well, except when wee-ornery pup was waiting on the river bank trying to thieve the stick from her.

Pup had a grand time as usual running, hunting, and swimming. Here she is soaking wet and ready to pounce on me!

I am flat-out frustrated with no birds at this point. I am breaking out the pigeons tomorrow. I love using them anyhow, but someone here keeps telling me they are nesting and not to use them. I am using them. It’s almost July. I am not waiting any longer. We have work to do before the real heat sets in and I am forced to hibernate… unless I can make it out to N. Dakota or Montana for the month of August. Although, that thought is probably insane, too. Is there anywhere cool with loads of wild birds to work dogs on in August??? I just have to find a place to stay to work the dogs from. I will take Dora and her puppies, too. I will return to PA at the end of August in time to unpack and repack and see Dora pups off to their new homes, then head to the Great North Woods until Thanksgiving. Sounds like a perfect plan to me, how about you? 🙂
